Everytime I plan a photoshoot, I try to explore a new side of myself. Surprisingly, I never noticed the true value of velvet until few days back. Amidst setting up my wardrobe, I happened to bump into my little velvet dress, which I got 6 years back. I held it and sat on my velvet cushioned puffy admiring and then this concept struck my head.
I looked around my house and came across so many accessories dolled up in velvet, including my sofa and some jewelry.
This shoot was a cakewalk for me, in terms of the location. I just stepped out of my room and got my frame ready.
When we talk about things rich and luxe, the one thing that can never miss the list; is Velvet.
And this statement is enough justified as was seen in this season's New York Fashion Week where Velvet ruled over the ramp walk.
This season's NYFW ditched the old black and was crushing over the bold colors in velvet. Bold blues & chrome yellows are absolutely in for this trend.
Velvet holds the power to turn the plainest things into the lavish ones. Whether it's the walls of a room, the decor, our outfits or even makeup, velvet gives it all the luxe factor that it requires. It represents class & luxury which is always a win-win.
Velvet is the eye candy of fabrics & it never fails to impress. So if you want to be a head turner, velvet can never be wrong.
Velvet can be seen everywhere!
Dresses, handbags, chokers, hair accessories, ear rings, shoes, decor. It's everywhere, where you need it to be. And even though velvet is a luxury product, if used wisely it can be used in varieties of field for varieties of uses. Velvet handbags & clutches, accessories & shoes, These all can be paired with different outfits to create the perfect look.
All you need is the right sense to pair the right look. For example, a body-con velvet dress on a summer day is a big NO. But a velvet choker or a Velvet clutch with your summer dress or outfit is definitely eye catching.
When it comes to decor, crystals are velvet's best friend. Altogether they are used in decor such as cushions and lamps and possess the quality to glam up the simplest corners of the room.
Velvet cushions have always been a sign of richness in the line of jewelry. A diamond necklace held in a red velvet cushion as a base, is the cliched beauty that reminds of the old golden era of luxury.
When we talk about makeup, the velvety effect is very common to create the flawless look. The trendiest example of this is Kylie's velvet lip kits which is so in right now.
And also the foundations and powders which provide this radiant look are trending in the makeup industry. All the big stars and celebrities use this look on the red carpet. My skin tone really accepted this finish because velvet makeup matches all skin tones as its only purpose is to blend well with the skin. I made sure I do not go too loud with the base and contouring and keep the cheeks and lips velvety red.
And when come to the lavishness in Indian authenticity, the wedding lehengas on velvet gives all of the princess feels a bride wants. Velvet is widely used in Indian wedding lehengas and the biggest example of this is displayed by Sabyasachi's wedding collection. It takes us back to the time of Rajas and Maharajas when luxury was at it's peak. Those timeless designs are still used now, and still reflect the beautiful legacy of our country's fashion.
Look around and you have endless beauty to admire. The classic tale of Velvet is really mesmerizing and leaves a deep impact on one.
Velvet is a blessing to the fashion and decor industry. It's timeless. And will always be.
